Immunizations & Vaccinations
Vaccination is an important part of preventive care for children and adults. A consultation can help you review your immunization history and discuss vaccines appropriate to your age, health and circumstances.
Reviewing your vaccination history
Bring any records and tell the clinician about previous doses, allergies or reactions. Age, pregnancy, immune conditions, travel and occupation may affect recommendations. If the record is incomplete, ask how the clinician will assess what you may need under current Indian guidance.
After the appointment
Ask which reactions are expected, what to do if they cause concern and when another dose is due. Seek emergency help for signs of a severe allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or collapse. Confirm vaccine availability and costs with the clinic.
Bring the record, not just your recollection
Take any vaccination cards or other records you have, including doses given elsewhere. Tell the clinician about previous reactions, allergies, pregnancy, medical conditions and medicines that affect the immune system. Mention travel plans or work-related requirements if these are the reason for the visit.
An individual review helps establish which vaccine is being considered and whether further doses or advice are needed. Adult, childhood and travel vaccination decisions are different; an online list for another country should not be used as a personal schedule.
Questions for the vaccination visit
Ask the team to explain the purpose of the vaccine, whether it is suitable for you and which common reactions to expect. Clarify any reason to postpone it, the observation arrangements after it is given and where to seek help for a concerning reaction. Follow the advice of the clinician providing the vaccine.
Keep the updated record, including the date and product details supplied by the team. If another dose is required, note when to arrange it and what to do if it is delayed. Confirm the particular vaccine and its availability when booking rather than assuming every vaccine is stocked.
